write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

The short film Identity the masks are covering up the peoples faces. All of the masks cover the entire face, obscuring the face and the identity of that person. The masks represent how when you want to fit in, it makes you try and cover up who you really are and you change yourself to be accepted into where every you want to fit in to.  On moment that stood out to me was when we first get a glimpse of the others masks. While the main girl has a bright white mask, with designs on her mask, all the other people we saw had plain one color masks. It stood out to me because it is already separating the girl from the rest of them and representing how she is different. The Identity is highlighting how its so important to be who you are, and how even though you might look different you are all the same.  The theme of the poem is highlighting how even he looks different, he sill is apart of America. The mask is supposed to express who you are not only on the outside, but a part of you that you might not show a lot. I want to mask to reveal that a person can be some much more complex on the inside.
